Katie and Pete, Engagement Session, Falmouth MA

Too long in updating this blog!! But I think the wait is worth it.

Katie and Pete love Cape Cod as much as I do so it was an easy decision to do their portrait session in Falmouth; starting at the Nobska light–I just don’t know if there is a more beautiful beach for an engagement session and it doesn’t matter if it’s cold, windy, and only hinting that summer might be coming. In fact, it made the blue skies and water even more fabulous.

Storm fencing keeping out reality, and sea grass coming back after a long winter

I love being here at the Nobska Lighthouse beach. I don’t normally see it except from the boat coming and going from Martha’s Vineyard, and to work from this side was a treat and WILL be back again and again.

and just some fun around the changing rooms from long ago. This was a fun and challenging shot:)

The light was spectacular and bright, but the rocks allowed us some shade. Classic. If I could only work in black/white I wouldn’t mind a bit:)

I love this portrait of Katie and Pete! Found some shelter behind the fencing, and found the light.

One of my all time favorites. Ever.  The lighthouse, the beach, and a couple in love.

At this point we decided to get out of the wind, and do some exploring at a local sanctuary. Hidden, private and just starting to come back from the winter.

Love how comfortable they are with each other — AND with me!

what else to do but propose!!!!

I had so much fun with you guys! You were up for anything, helped me find the ‘perfect’ spot (and didn’t laugh at me!) on top of  porches, in the back of brush and just were able to play and relax.

Congrats to Katie who will graduate from nursing school very shortly!

Can’t wait to see you again, and for your wedding this summer.

Favorite Photographs of 2012

An almost impossible task : Favorites from the past year!

So many poignant moments. So many wonderful stories. So blessed to work with the best clients, each has welcomed me as family, so that’s what each event and session has become for me–documenting extended family. And I don’t know where to start.

Wedding Favorites

The Bride (and groom) getting ready are some of my favorite moments of the whole day. Don’t know if it’s because of the the adrenaline, the anticipation, the family’s  emotions. It’s a great time to highlight the dress, shoes, jewelry.

The weddings this year ranged from very intimate affairs with just immediate family to full weekend events. So many weddings this year had a ‘first look”-the bride and groom seeing each other in a relatively private area before the ceremony. It may be a little nontraditional, but what else is new? If you are a bride thinking about it — do it!  There are about 50 reasons why you should.

The ceremony venues ranged from the magnificence of a cathedral to nature’s own magnificence and everything in between. But they were nothing without 2 people in love.

It really helps to have a fun bunch of attendants. With the most formal of formals to those who’d just as soon kick it up, I think working with the bridal party is just so much fun.

We had a couple of cheerleaders this year — didn’t take long for these wedding parties to jump and jump and jump.

I love spontaneous cracking up.

Then the walk around, private time. I know I’ve said each of the above is my favorite part of the day, but this really is. It can be part of a first look, or a break between the ceremony and reception.

And the details of the day. Handmade, hand me downs or new for the day. Spectacular.

The random shots throughout the day, they may or may not make the album but just made me smile or laugh even now.

My real favorites? Haven’t even been posted or proofed. They are of my son and new daughter. And I didn’t even take the best ones. But these are  a couple of my absolute favorites when I couldn’t put the camera down.

Here it is. My most favorite image ever made. My Mom and Dad. Who will be celebrating their 60 year anniversary next September.

Thank you to all my clients, your families and friends. For your trust, your enthusiasm, and finally a new friendship. I will never forget a minute.

Thank you again to Pete and Norm who assisted me individually or as The Team. Your help, good nature and the ability to sing (albeit off key) in the car on a long drive home so that I can relax and get ready for 3-4 additional hour to make sure everything is backed up is indescribable.

Aly and Joe: Wedding at Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard

Union Chapel and East Chop Beach Club Wedding

If you are summer visitors to the Vineyard, you know of the sun, the beaches, the night life in Oak Bluffs and Edgartown, the sweet sunsets at Menemsha and Gay Head; they are all fabulous. But if you only visit during the summer you are missing out on the best season of the year (in my humble opinion only). That Joe and Aly decided to get married in late September in Oak Bluffs and loved the Vineyard in all seasons — no fair weather friends here! — and asked me to document the day made me incredibly happy. And also a little more nervous than usual. Joe has a very good photographic eye, and told me to photograph the day as I saw it. Carte Blanche. More than the usual pressure:)

The day started at the Wesley Hotel in Oak Bluffs. The hotel has been there forever. I believe my great grandparents stayed there before they bought their fishing cabin in Chilmark. It is fabulous in its longevity and charm. And makes the perfect backdrop for the modern bride.

And what a BEAUTIFUL bride Aly is. I don’t think she needed anything to make her more beautiful, but when she walked into the Union Chapel at the base of Circuit Ave in Oak Bluffs I let out a gasp. An Angel Bride.

I didn’t say it then but MAZEL TOV!!!

Families are what it’s all about. Those present in spirit and physically. Bringing wine from home. When you are at the Black Dog in Oak Bluffs, make sure you tell Eileen how beautiful the day was, and enjoy her warm hospitality. In everything she does.

The activities at the East Chop Beach Club were lively all night. The food hot all the way down:)The music hot all night long.

And the cake almost too perfect for …..

the best cake smash I’ve ever seen

This just made me laugh. Who was anticipating more, Aly or the girls?

A special call out to their bridal party who braved wind, ocean and cold air to walk the dock for Aly and Joe. It wasn’t easy, but when Joe had posted an image of the dock the night before I KNEW he wanted to be there.

Sweet Details. Fragrance. Creativity with the knife. And Keys to the kingdom that is East Chop.

My fervent hope is that you live happily ever after.

And that we get a clear day for a walk in Menemsha:)

 Aly and Joe.

I’m honored to call you Martha’s Vineyard friends, and when I come to NYC I can call you that too.

Thank you. Thank you.

Make sure you leave some love for Joe and Aly below!
