Welcome!

and thanks for stopping by to see fun and modern photography by Karen Leaf.

I combine modern, photo journalistic (candid) wedding and portrait photography in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island; most central New England areas are less than 2 hours away, and I enjoy traveling and exploring new places.

My own philosophy about photography is to make it timeless: I don’t want someone looking at your wedding album or portraits 50 years from now and having someone say–”that was all the rage in early 2009 or 2010″.  My use of digital ‘enhancements’- you know the ones that have a huge blur or vignette around the bride and groom or have colors so saturated that nature never intended- is limited; if you want it I can do it, but you’ll also see the original that is correctly exposed with a great deal of thought about the lighting and composition without resorting to enhancements that make your images like 10,000 others. The enhancements I use are just that: they are subtle, and not over the top ‘art’. (I’ll get off my soapbox, now:))

I’m the Mom of 3 great kids of the marrying age (and I’m trying real hard not to egg them on a little:)); a 2.5 year old black lab that now owns the house and 2 old cats that let the dog only think she runs the place.

Like many others, I picked up an old Brownie camera at an early age,  continued learning thru high school and college. A few years ago after the kids became self sufficient and on their own I realized that it was time to make my part-time (in reality I was working 2 full time jobs) photography job to full time–and I’ve never regretted it! My new studio is located in Putnam, and really enjoy local parks and downtown areas for location sessions. Livin’ the dream:)

Please take a look around — I’d really like to talk to you about your plans.

Thanks!
